The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) convened on Tuesday the Deputy High Commissioner of India, Gaurav Ahluwalia, to register a strong protest against "ceasefire violations not caused" by Indian forces along the Control Line (LoC) on October 6 and 7.<\/p>\n
An old woman had died and three other civilians had been injured in the shooting in the Chirikot sector along the de facto border. <\/p>\n
"The Director General of FO (SA & SAARC), Dr. Mohammad Faisal, summoned the Indian deputy commissioner again today and condemned the unprovoked violations of the ceasefire by the Indian occupation forces throughout the LoC," he said. the FO spokesman in a press release.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, Dr. Faisal urged the Indian side to respect the ceasefire agreement of 2003; investigate these and other incidents of ceasefire violations; instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire in letter and spirit and maintain peace in the LoC and the limit of work. <\/p>\n
India should allow the United Nations Military Observer Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to perform its mandatory role according to UN Security Council resolutions, he added.<\/p>\n
According to the press release, due to "indiscriminate and unprovoked shots" by the Indian army in the Chirikot sector of the LoC, an elderly woman named Nazira Begum, 69, a resident of the Kakuta village, died while three other civilians, Manzoor, 43, Jamil, 40, and Mushtaq, 46, all residents of the village of Kakuta, suffered serious injuries.<\/p>\n
The FO said that Indian forces along the LoC and the work limit have been continuously attacking areas populated by civilians with artillery fire, large caliber mortars and automatic weapons.<\/p>\n
"The deliberate targeting of areas populated by civilians is truly deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws."<\/p>\n
The FO warned that violations of the ceasefire by India are a threat to regional peace and security and can lead to "a strategic miscalculation."<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/pre>\n<\/pre>\n
