Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asked the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday to review the evidence linked to a controversial video and a statement by former accountability judge Arshad Malik before deciding the appeal of Supreme PML-N against his conviction in the case of Al Azizia.<\/p>\n
Last month, Nawaz's lawyer, Khawaja Haris, urged the court of two judges to hear his appeal to include "verified copies" of a press release and an affidavit submitted to IHC by Judge Malik, following the publication of a controversial video of the judge, to the paper book of the request of the former prime minister. The request was granted by the court. <\/p>\n
The petition filed today by Nawaz's lawyer stated that Malik's statement "showed one side of the argument" and urged the court to also listen to the "other side."<\/p>\n
He appealed to the court to consider the arguments and evidence regarding the judge's video before issuing a verdict on his previous appeal. <\/p>\n
In December 2018, Nawaz was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined 1.5 billion rupees and 25 million dollars after the Malik account judge found him guilty in the case of corruption of Al Azizia. The former prime minister, who is currently in the Kot Lakhpat prison, filed an appeal against the conviction at the IHC.<\/p>\n
In July of this year, Nawaz's daughter, Maryam Nawaz, questioned the ruling after showing a video in which Malik allegedly confessed that he had been "blackmailed" to condemn Nawaz. Maryam, who is currently in NAB custody, had requested the revocation of Nawaz's sentence.<\/p>\n
Malik was removed from office after the video was published and was repatriated to Lahore High Court, where disciplinary proceedings will be carried out against him.<\/p>\n

Also on Saturday, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested Nasir Butt's nephew, Hamza Butt, and another relative named Shoaib during a raid on Nasir's brother's residence in the Amral Ratta area in Rawalpindi.<\/p>\n
Hamza and Shoaib were transferred to the FIA \u200b\u200bheadquarters in Islamabad. However, Shoaib was later released on condition that he appear before the agency when he was summoned. <\/p>\n
