LAHORE: The president of the National Office of Accountability (NAB), the retired judge Javed Iqbal, expressed frustration at what he called "cold response" from other countries regarding providing the legal assistance required to proceed against the suspects who They have properties abroad. <\/p>\n

Citing the example of a Lahore suspect, the president said that he (a suspect) in the 1980s and 1990s was on a bicycle and now had squares and towers in Dubai. <\/p>\n
"We tried to bring him (to the suspect) back from the country he was currently living in, but a court there granted him a suspension and we couldn't bring him back," he said apparently referring to former fiance minister Ishaq Dar who was in London. Dar has been declared a criminal proclaimed by a Pakistani court in a corruption reference. <\/p>\n
\u201cNAB is investigating cases against those who ruled the country for 35 years. NAB never exceeded its jurisdiction since it has no affiliation with the government, \u201dhe said. <\/p>\n
"No one could have imagined that" someone "would be in NAB custody and face the courts. There are several mafias in the country and NAB is honestly doing its duty," he said and added that he just wanted to ask that the country had a debt of less than $ 100 billion and where the amount was spent. <\/p>\n
Regarding the "guilty agreement" option offered to the suspects by the NAB, Mr. Iqbal said: "It will be a serious injustice if thieves are released by paying 10 percent of what they have embezzled," he added. that a suspect could earn all the money again in just three days if he achieved a powerful position.<\/p>\n
Denying the accusation that NAB forced the suspects to approve the "big guns," retired judge Iqbal said: <\/p>\n
"NAB does not force any suspect to become an approver against anyone," challenging employers to file even one of those cases. <\/p>\n
He assured the business community that NAB would not assume any case of tax evasion against him. "Tax evasion cases related to businessmen will be referred to the Federal Revenue Board (FBR), as they are different from [those pertaining to] money laundering, "he said and added that the office was investigating these cases by order of the apex court. <\/p>\n
Mr. Iqbal also told the businessmen that NAB did not take measures directly on the cases of bank default, since the banks referred it to him.<\/p>\n
