Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, attended a dual ceremony on Sunday that commissioned a new Turkish naval ship as construction began on a ship to be sold to Pakistan's navy.<\/p>\n
Turkey is one of 10 countries worldwide capable of building, designing and maintaining warships using their own national capabilities, said President Erdogan at the ceremony of the TCG Kinaliada, commissioned today for the Turkish Navy, and a MILGEM class ( national Turkish warship program) A ship is being built for Pakistan. <\/p>\n
In his speech, Erdogan said he hopes that the Kinaliad, an Ada-class corvette, benefits the Turkish nation and its sailors and hopes that Pakistan, a friendly nation of Turkey, will also benefit from the ship whose construction began today. <\/p>\n
In July 2018, the Pakistan navy signed a contract for the acquisition of four MILGEM-class ships from Turkey. MILGEM vessels have a length of 99 meters, a displacement capacity of 24.00 tons and a speed of 29 nautical miles.<\/p>\n
MILGEM anti-submarine combat frigates, which can be hidden from the radar, will further enhance the defense capability of the Pakistan Navy.<\/p>\n
While two corvettes will be built in Turkey, the next two will be built in Pakistan through technology transfer. <\/p>\n
"Our army, rich in glorious victories, is taking this legacy into the future by strengthening it even more," Erdogan said.<\/p>\n
He said Turkey is proud of its "team, discipline, qualified staff and all the achievements it carries out." <\/p>\n
Erdogan said that recent events worldwide and especially in the Mediterranean point to the need to strengthen Turkey at sea, as in all other areas.<\/p>\n
Greece and Greek Cyprus have recently challenged Turkey's right to use the energy resources of the Eastern Mediterranean, but Turkey has not backed down and continues to send drilling ships to the region with military escorts.<\/p>\n
Turkey is determined to reach heights nationwide in all areas, including shipbuilding, artillery, missiles, torpedoes and electronic systems, Erdogan said.<\/p>\n
Erdogan said time is also near for Turkey to build its own fighter jets, just as it has built its own manned and unmanned aerial vehicles and satellites.<\/p>\n
"We have not forgotten the moment when we could not buy ships, airplanes and tools that we wanted, even when we wanted to pay them," he said.<\/p>\n
Erdogan emphasized that the corvettes that have been put into service to date have successfully fulfilled their duties by participating in numerous national and international exercises.<\/p>\n
"We have many more projects to strengthen our navy, and work on the diesel-electric submarine project, which will meet the needs of both our country and the friendly states, is ongoing," Erdogan said.<\/p>\n
Erdogan stressed that Turkey's dependence on foreign trade in the defense industry has fallen from 80 percent to 30 percent.<\/p>\n
"Today, we have five companies among the top 100 defense companies in the world, and we expect this number to continue to increase."<\/p>\n
"Our goal is to completely eliminate our dependence on the foreign defense industry by 2023," he said. Turkey will celebrate its centenary in 2023. <\/p>\n
Pakistan Navy commander Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi and Erdogan cut the first metal plate of the first of four Ada MILGEM class corvettes during the ceremony. <\/p>\n
Erdogan told the audience that relations between Pakistan and Turkey had great potential for cooperation in the field of defense production.<\/p>\n
Referring to the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, Erdogan said that the world should know the sufferings of the occupied territory. <\/p>\n
He compared the situation of occupied Kashmir with Palestine and added that more than 8 million cashmere are facing Indian atrocities in an open-air prison in their territory.<\/p>\n
Erdogan stated that he would continue to raise the problem of Kashmir and the sufferings of the people of Kashmir.<\/p>\n
Admiral Abbasi, in his speech, described the project as another proof of the brotherhood between Pakistan and Turkey. He also informed the guests about the latest situation in Jammu and Kashmir that is under the Indian administration. <\/p>\n
Abbasi spoke about the Hinduvta toxic ideology in India and its threats to regional and international peace. He stressed that Indian cruelty has increased to new levels after the decisions of the Indian government on August 5, which are against the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and international law.<\/p>\n
The admiral extended his gratitude to President Erdogan for raising the Kashmir problem in the United Nations General Assembly and added that the people of Pakistan and the occupied region owed unwavering support to Turkey. <\/p>\n
Regarding the current problems in Jammu and Kashmir, Erdogan regretted that no other country, besides Turkey and Malaysia, has ruled on the issue. <\/p>\n
The region occupied by India has been facing repression since August 5, when the Indian government revoked article 370 of the constitution, which gave it a special status.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of people, mostly political leaders, have been arrested or arrested by the authorities since the Indian government made the move.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/pre>\n<\/pre>\n
