MUZAFFARABAD: A committee composed of the heads of the political and religious parties of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has decided to postpone a proposed march towards the Control Line (LoC) until the speech of Prime Minister Imran Khan in the General Assembly of the United Nations on September 27.<\/p>\n
A committee meeting chaired by AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider was held on Saturday at the Kashmir House in Islamabad.<\/p>\n
On August 9, four days after India removed the special status of occupied Kashmir through a hasty presidential order and put the entire territory under closure, Mr. Haider convened a multiparty meeting to discuss the situation and reach a unanimous course of action.<\/p>\n
As a broad understanding at the meeting was to make a march towards LoC, the mandate of Prime Minister AJK was that of the participants to establish modalities and set a date for it. However, the matter could not be advanced due to Haider's month-long foreign tour.<\/p>\n
Upon his return on September 11, a general meeting of some leaders and representatives of political and religious parties was held, but a decision on the matter was postponed again until Prime Minister Imran Khan's speech at a rally in Muzaffarabad on Friday.<\/p>\n
At Friday's demonstration, Mr. Haider spoke about the same demand and desire in AJK to "trample the LoC".<\/p>\n
Responding to this, Prime Minister Imran Khan said he knew that the majority of young people in AJK wanted to organize a march in the LoC for passion and commitment.<\/p>\n
However, he urged them to defer a march until they fight their case at the UN General Assembly.<\/p>\n
