RAWALPINDI: A total of 11 officials of the Adiala Central Prison have been suspended following allegations that one prisoner was sexually assaulted by another inmate.<\/p>\n
Chaudhry Saqib Nazeer Jail Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent have also been asked to explain why they did not analyze the charges. <\/p>\n
Prison Inspector General Punjab Shahid Saleem Baig ordered an investigation into the incident, after which 11 officials were suspended, while the two officials mentioned above were asked to explain their negligence.<\/p>\n
The IGP said the deputy inspector general of the Rawalpindi region, the investigative officer, recommended disciplinary proceedings against the 11 officials.<\/p>\n
The incident came to light during an official visit to the prison by additional district and session judge Rana Masood Akhtar, when an inmate told him that another inmate sexually assaulted him.<\/p>\n
According to a senior official, the victim was taken to a hospital for a medical examination according to the judge's instructions. The FIR has not yet registered an FIR since the medical report is still awaited.<\/p>\n
The deputy general inspector of prisons in the Rawalpindi region, Rana Abdul Rauf, was appointed as an investigative officer and found negligence on the part of the superintendent, the deputy superintendent and 11 imprisoned in their handling of the case.<\/p>\n
After the investigation, the 11 guards were suspended and explanations of the two senior officials were sought. <\/p>\n
Suspended guards include the upper guards Nowsherwan, Ghulam Rabbani, Tahir Shahzad, Rashid Ali and Mohammad Irfan.<\/p>\n
