Litton, who has not reached double figures in eight ODIs since December 2023, returns to the ODI side after nine months. Simmons said Litton’s ability against spin made the decision.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cFirst of all, it\u2019s so hard to keep. [wicket for] Play 50 overs and then come and start batting,\u201d Simmons said.[Litton] He is also one of the standout players of spin bowling. The middle order was one of our Achilles’ heels. \u201cSo he\u2019s going to go there with his experience and his skills, and hopefully we can get what we need there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While Bangladesh dropped Jaker Ali and Nurul Hasan, they retained Mahidul Islam Ankon, who batted at number five against West Indies last October. Ankon scored 69 points in three games and barely budged his scoring rate as he looked to cement his place in the side.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Litton last batted fifth in the 2019 ODI World Cup when he scored an unbeaten 94 against West Indies at Taunton. However, he has been ranked in the top four for most of his ODI career. Simmons said he didn’t have to work hard to convince Litton to take the role.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cHe was comfortable hitting from anywhere,\u201d Simmons said. "I think he’s become a lot more comfortable with his game and sees it as an opportunity to do what the team needs from him. We didn’t have to convince Lytton of anything. All we asked was ‘this is what the team needs’ and he was willing to do it. He was happy to do anything for the team. He’s happy to do that for us now when he’s captain, so we didn’t have to convince him of anything.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Bangladesh will play international cricket after three months of missing out on the T20 World Cup due to political conflict. Simmons said it "hurts” for his players to miss the tournament, but that domestic one-dayers have helped them stay focused.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI think we\u2019re now at the point where we\u2019re getting over it. It was very hurtful for the players,\u201d Simmons said. \u201cI spoke to them. It was very hurtful, but I think we have reached the stage and I think BCL. [Bangladesh Cricket League] I helped out with that little tournament. So we go back to the framework of 50-over cricket and start thinking about these three matches here. So I think we\u2019re getting there.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Simmons said the team wants to bat the way it did in the third ODI against West Indies in October last year. Bangladesh scored 296 runs with a fierce turner, with the top order leading the way.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

"We finished well against West Indies and we don’t want to go back from there. The wickets are looking a lot better than they did in that series, so the most important thing is to look at the progression and that’s to bat the way we batted in the last game.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
