MUMBAI: Less than a month after the city’s first melodic highway was inaugurated, BMC has decided to check the decibel levels of noise coming out of it at the nearest residential building. This comes after Breach Candy residents wrote to the City Commissioner, raising strong objections to music being played along the northern stretch of the city’s Coastal Road, which runs through residential neighborhoods. A BMC official said, "The contractor has been asked to measure the decibel levels in the nearest building. Apart from this, we are also trying to see if there are ways to reduce the sound as currently motorists passing by at a speed of 60 to 80 kmph can hear the music.”Kavita Chawla, a resident of Breach Candy, who lives in a housing society opposite the music road, said that on March 6, our local residents’ group sent a reminder to the BMC to investigate the music road that was disturbing the residents of the area. "The noise coming from the road is very disturbing because it is difficult to sleep peacefully at night as the noise from the road resonates through the house,” he said.The musical road begins after motorists exit the underground tunnel in Breach Candy. In the first lane, next to the divider, special grooves have been placed over a 500-meter stretch. When vehicles pass through these ruts at a speed of 70 to 80 km\/h, the tune of ‘Jai Ho’ from the movie Slumdog Millionaire can be heard inside the vehicle.<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
