Netflix announced that its beautifully healthy, albeit provocative, show would be renewed less than a month after the season two's excellent debut, showing how much we still love it. While we don't yet know the release date of the third, hopefully COVID-19 won't be affected in the same way as other movies and TV shows.

Sex education follows the life, insecurities and sexual obsessions of many members of Moordale High School, located in the stunning Welsh countryside. Here, mother and son Jean and Otis, Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield help their friends and colleagues with their sexual problems. It's Jean's profession, but Otis is doing it for the quick buck.

Here's a breakdown of what we know about Sex Education Season 3 thus far, including its likely release date, return cast, and where the show can go from here. Will Maeve and Otis finally become an article? Spoilers follow.

Sex education season 3 confirmed

Netflix confirmed that Season 3 of Sex Education is in process on February 10, 2020. As reported by Deadline In 2019, the show's first season drew an impressive 40 million viewers during its opening week, making the revamp not a surprise. Given the show's apparent popularity on social media, it's safe to assume that Sex Education has found its audience.

Sex Education season 3 release date predictions – wait 2021

let's talk about baby sex, let's talk about season 3 (of sex education) pic.twitter.com/qvRIiXwp9BFebruary 10, 2020

Fortunately, Netflix seems to understand exactly how thirsty sex education fans are for more of the show, and marked the season 3 renewal announcement with a teaser. Like the opening reveal trailer for Season 2, featuring Gillian Anderson delivering a sultry monologue on the benefits of sex education, the Season 3 trailer is playfully narrated by director Groff of Alistair Petrie.

We see the troubled principal walking the halls of Moordale High, snapping portraits of the main cast of Sex Education as he watches what the future might hold for each of them. The teaser ends with an invitation to discover more in the upcoming third season, but it doesn't reveal an actual release date.

If Netflix stays true to its current launch pattern for the show, which given its qualifying success seems possible, we predict we'll see the season 3 launch in January 2021. Production details are still pretty sparse, but Weekly production It has the third season listed on a recent 2020 production schedule for May, so time is roughly lining up.

Sex Education season 3 cast: who we hope to return to

<picture></picture>

While the confirmed cast list for the third season has yet to hit the web, we feel pretty confident assuming that the characters featured in the teaser video are making a comeback.

The protagonists of the series Butterfield (Otis Milburn) and Anderson (Dr. Jean Milburn) are featured, along with a sizable chunk of the supporting cast that includes Emma Mackey (Maeve Wiley), Ncuti Gatwa (Eric Effiong), Connor Swindells ( Adam Groff) and Patricia Allison (Ola Nyman) Given how much season 2 leaned toward a joint narrative approach, it would be hard to imagine the show coming back without most of the cast repeating their roles.

Anderson tweeted about Sex Education season 3 on the day of the renewal (note the patterns on the ceiling above it):

See you soon 🍆🌸 @ sexeducation S3 pic.twitter.com/sdONgVmzVQFebruary 10, 2020

Sex Education Season 3 Story: What We Expect From The Next Set Of Episodes

Series creator and writer Laurie Nunn was already working hard on the script for a third season long before Netflix renewed the show.

In an interview with LADbible, Nunn touches on the series' busy work schedule, noting that the writing process for another season before the confirmed renewal is a normal part of how television production works. It's not difficult to see why sex education has had such an echo with fans. It offers a very humane and unbiased view of the issues facing not only teens, but also many adults who are still accepting of their own sexuality.
