The Interior Ministry issued a notification on Monday to formally allow Nawaz Sharif to travel abroad for medical treatment, stating that the decision has been taken as an "interim agreement" in light of the Lahore Superior Court order in this regard. . <\/p>\n
In its notification, the ministry reproduced the commitments provided by Shehbaz Sharif and Nawaz to the LHC in which the terms of their travel and return have been established. <\/p>\n
The commitment provided by Shehbaz includes a clause that states that the Pakistan High Commission will have the right to meet with Nawaz doctors to "verify or confirm their health." <\/p>\n
The LHC had allowed the former Prime Minister on Saturday to travel abroad for four weeks for medical treatment, and said the duration could be extended based on medical reports.<\/p>\n
In a coup to the government, which had placed a condition of compensation vouchers for Nawaz's trip, the court had ordered the federal government to remove its name from the Exit Control List (ECL) without any conditions.<\/p>\n
An air ambulance is expected to arrive in Lahore from Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday morning to transport Nawaz to London. Arrangements have been made in the Haj Terminal of Lahore Airport.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, the Pakistani government Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), after much deliberation, had granted a one-time permit to Nawaz for four weeks to travel abroad for treatment, provided he presented compensation vouchers worth more than 7,500 crore.<\/p>\n
The condition was questioned in LHC by the PML-N legal team, on behalf of the former prime minister, on Thursday and was taken by the two-member bank the same day.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, the LHC allowed Nawaz to travel abroad initially for a period of four weeks, extendable based on medical reports.<\/p>\n
Nawaz, who was diagnosed with an immune system disorder, was advised to go abroad for medical treatment. The former prime minister is convicted in two corruption cases and is suspected in another.<\/p>\n
The former prime minister was transferred from the Kot Lakhpat prison to the hospital last month after his personal physician warned of his deteriorated health. After this, Shehbaz had submitted a request to the Ministry of Interior, as well as to the National Office of Responsibility (NAB) for the removal of Nawaz's name from the ECL so that the former prime minister could travel abroad for medical treatment.<\/p>\n
Nawaz, who was jailed after an accountability court found him guilty in Al Azizia's corruption referral, received bail from the Islamabad High Court for humanitarian reasons.
