Defense Minister Pervez Khattak, at the head of the government team in charge of negotiating with the opposition parties over the current Islamabad sit-in, warned the opposition not to violate the agreement under which the ongoing protest was allowed.<\/p>\n
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Saturday along with other committee members, he said measures will be taken against protesters if the agreement is violated. <\/p>\n
Khattak said the government was open to talks with the opposition, but that the re-election or resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan is out of the question. <\/p>\n
"We have told you that there will be no discussion about the Prime Minister's resignation; don't even think about it," he said.<\/p>\n
The PTI leader reminded the opposition Rehbar Committee that he had agreed to organize his sitting on H-9, Peshawar Mor in Islamabad. <\/p>\n
"We were sad about yesterday's speeches," he said, adding that, on the one hand, opposition parties were signing agreements and on the other, they were talking about invading government property.<\/p>\n
"We are in contact with all political parties, including Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F)," he said, adding that the committee expected the Protestant parties to keep their word, "otherwise action will be taken. administrative. " ".<\/p>\n
"If they go beyond [the agreement] then it would be a violation of its own agreed agreement. In that case, nobody should complain about us, "he said. <\/p>\n
Khattak warned that the Protestant parties would be responsible for the consequences if they do not comply with the agreement.<\/p>\n
He also called the opposition for criticizing the "institutions." <\/p>\n
Commenting on a statement by PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif about the establishment, he said that for the first time in the history of Pakistan, the institution was "neutral" because PML-N faced a defeat in the elections . <\/p>\n
"We pay tribute to the institutions for playing a neutral role," he said.<\/p>\n
Speaking about the protesters' demands, he said that the opposition parties have no problems or substantive demands. He claimed that they are pursuing a single demand for the Prime Minister's resignation. <\/p>\n
He said it cannot be a fad that the prime minister is sent to pack after 30 to 40 thousand people take to the streets and demand the resignation of the prime minister.<\/p>\n
"Democracy cannot survive in the country in this way," he said. <\/p>\n
"Our doors are open … we are ready for conversations, but if we are forced [then the opposition should realise that] Prime Minister Imran, I or the ministers alone are not the government. Our government is all institutions and they have signed an agreement with the institutions, "he said, adding that the government committee had just proposed the agreement; the opposition had approved it and the administration and the Protestant parties had signed it. <\/p>\n
He reiterated his warning that the institutions "will take action" if the opposition parties violate the agreement. In such a scenario, he added, the government will not be able to intervene.<\/p>\n
Responding to a question about Pakistan's army support for the government, he said public relations between services (ISPR) had already announced yesterday that the army supports constitutional governments. <\/p>\n
"The army is not a separate thing, why do you take it as a separate thing. The army is part of the government. Administration, army, bureaucracy and parliament, they all work as a team, don't treat them separately," he said.<\/p>\n
The unconditional PTI Asad Umar added that the most sensitive issue for the army could be foreign policy. <\/p>\n
"They [PML-N leaders] I had invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his house at a private party, but the army did not stop them, "he said.<\/p>\n
Addressing Shahbaz, he asked: "Did the army prevent you from establishing schools or hospitals and reforming the police or the judiciary?"<\/p>\n
Federal minister Shafqat Mahmood claimed that the jumble of the JUI-F has served Indian interests. He diverted the focus of India-occupied Kashmir to Islamabad, he said.<\/p>\n
While answering a question, Khattak said the demand for the Prime Minister's resignation has already been rejected, so the opposition has nothing substantial to discuss with them. He challenged the opposition that he could gather more people alone than the nine opposition parties have gathered in Islamabad.<\/p>\n
