An accountability court in Lahore declared Suleman Shahbaz, son of PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif, a criminal convicted in a money laundering case against the Sharif family on Monday and issued new arrest warrants against him. <\/p>\n
The judge of the court of responsibility Ameer Mohammad Khan issued the orders at the request of the National Office of Responsibility (NAB). The accountability regulator informed the court that all of Suleman's properties have already been seized according to the previous court order.<\/p>\n
During the hearing, lawyer Hafiz Asadullah Awan, on behalf of NAB, argued that Suleman did not appear before the liability control agency despite six call notices.<\/p>\n
The lawyer informed the court that the president of the NAB had already issued arrest warrants for the suspect in the case. He added that Suleman had fled the country. [to avoid NAB proceedings against him].<\/p>\n
When presenting the details of Suleman's properties, NAB informed the court that the office had seized the suspect's actions worth Rs2 billion in 16 companies. According to the NAB report, it also seized cash worth Rs4.1 million in three bank accounts, as well as $ 4,000 in two different bank accounts of the suspect. <\/p>\n
In addition, NAB also confiscated 10 farmland from marlas and land spread over more than 209 kanal owned by Suleman.<\/p>\n
NAB alleged that assets worth Rs3.3 billion had been identified so far as illegally accumulated by Hamza Shahbaz, Suleman and his father Shahbaz. He said the whole family committed massive money laundering in the name of remittances and foreign loans.<\/p>\n
Last year, Suleman had appeared before NAB Lahore regarding the provision of his family's property registry.<\/p>\n
In a notice issued to him, NAB had said: "During the interrogation, Shahbaz Sharif has stated that all matters related to assets, income and expenses are being taken care of by you and you know and possess such information \/ documents. You are requested appear before a combined research team along with documents of all assets and properties. "<\/p>\n
However, Suleman then skipped several NAB hearings and left the country. <\/p>\n
In May, a NAB prosecutor had said that Mohammad Mushtaq aka Cheeni, who was the manager of Ramzan Sugar Mills and had been unloaded from a PIA flight and arrested in April, had revealed that Suleman used bank accounts opened in the name of its employees, who were poorly paid workers or workers.<\/p>\n
"I have been working for the two brothers since they started taking care of their family's sugar business in 2005," Cheeni said in his confessional statement recorded by a judicial magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC.<\/p>\n
