ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan asked the Border Works Organization to postpone the implementation of the axle load condition in a movement to appease the agitated merchants protesting against the government's documentation campaign.<\/p>\n
In chairing a meeting of his economic team, the prime minister also commissioned financial advisor Dr. Hafeez Shaikh and the president of the Federal Revenue Board, Shabbar Zaidi, to prepare a better package for merchants in consultation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). <\/p>\n
According to an official source, he asked Zaidi to meet with the merchants on Monday to further discuss his demands. "We will have a meeting with the merchants on Monday," the FBR president also confirmed. Dawn<\/em>.<\/p>\n The president said his team meets regularly with the representatives of the merchants and that the financial advisor will also hold talks with the IMF about his proposals. "We will settle an agreement for them," he said.<\/p>\n Shortly after the direction of the prime minister, FWO postponed the implementation of the axle load policy on the M-9 motorway for a year. The decision was made at the request of the merchant community.<\/p>\n All these measures are in line to appease the restless traders, who have already announced protests across the country scheduled for October 29 and 30.<\/p>\n The carriers involved in the Afghan traffic trade have also complained about the strict implementation of the axle load condition implemented by the National Highway Authority (NHA). <\/p>\n Traders believe that the implementation of these measures by the CNS is stricter in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and not in Balochistan, which leads to diverting trade to that province.<\/p>\n The agenda also included discussing the formulation of a policy for the small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) sector. <\/p>\n The prime minister was informed that the CEO of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority will be appointed in December and a three-year strategy will be formulated in this regard, while his board of directors has already been nominated. In addition, he asked his team to focus on improving the construction and SME sectors.<\/p>\n He also acknowledged the country's recent improvement in the World Bank's Ease of Doing Business Index and praised the relevant departments.<\/p>\n In informing the prime minister, the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Reza Baqir, said that about 46,940 cases have been pending before the banking courts and their prompt elimination requires legal reforms.<\/p>\n The prime minister commented that the value of the rupee had regained stability and that stock market indicators show an improvement.
