Activision has revealed a new battle royale experience for Call of Duty Warzone called Black Ops Royale, a mode designed to bring back the survival-based gameplay of the original Blackout in Call of Duty Black Ops 4.
The new mode is free to play and launches on March 12th and brings new maps, new mechanics, and updated systems for modern Warzone players.
Unlike traditional Warzone matches, Black Ops Royale does away with some familiar mechanics. Players have no loadouts, station purchases, Gulag respawns, or in-game cash.
Everyone starts the match with only a pistol and a wingsuit, so your squad must scour the map for weapons, armor, and equipment to survive. This design refocuses on mopping up, positioning, and squad tactics instead of custom loadouts.
A return to survival-style battle royale gameplay

Black Ops Royale puts up to 100 players on a massive new map called Avalon, where squads compete to be the last team standing.
Players must deploy using a wingsuit and explore the map before rival squads to gather gear, upgrade weapons, and acquire more powerful gear.
Avalon is described as a diverse and expansive environment containing historical villages, coastal defenses, casinos, and excavation areas designed for long-range combat and strategic movement.
The map also includes waterways, tidal flats, and vehicles that players can travel across land and sea as they race ahead in a shrinking combat zone known as Collapse.

Weapons follow a rarity-based loot system where players upgrade their gear with additional attachments as they find better loot. Gear from classic Blackout gameplay also returns, including tools like grappling hooks, sensor darts, and trauma kits.
The new mode introduces a special event called Cradle Breaches. This area is filled with red gas and spawns hordes of zombies while also offering some of the best loot on the map. Players who enter this area can fight Mangle Bosses and unlock mystery boxes to obtain high-value loot.
Black Ops Royale will also tie into your Black Ops 7 progression through challenges, missions, and unlockable rewards, positioning the mode as a key addition to the evolving Warzone experience.
Meanwhile, if you’re still playing COD: Warzone on mobile, you only have a few weeks left to play, as the game is scheduled to end on April 17, 2026.
