It wasn’t that long ago that Brandon Moreno was the flyweight champion of the world. Likewise, Marlon Vera is only two years removed from the pay-per-view (PPV) headliner and 135-pound title fight against Sean O’Malley.
Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there.
Moreno (23-10-2) has lost four of his last six fights, while Vera (23-12-1) has lost five in a row, including last weekend at UFC Mexico in Mexico City. “The Assassin Baby” lost to Lone’er Kavanagh and “Chito” lost to David Martinez.
As expected, this performance cost both combatants valuable real estate in the latest UFC rankings update.
Here’s how rankings will be compiled, at least until AI takes over.
The rankings are created by a voting panel made up of media members. Media members were asked to vote on who the best fighter in the UFC was by weight class and pound-for-pound. Fighters can only vote if they are active in the UFC. Fighters may appear in more than one weight class at a time. Champions and interim champions cannot be voted on by weight class as they are considered to be at the top of their division. However, champions can vote on pound-for-pound rankings.
Take a look at the latest rankings field from UFC.com. Note: (+/- = change in ranking, T = tie, *NR = no previous ranking).
