Greta Gerwig to Direct Margot Robbie’s Barbie Movie

Greta Gerwig to direct Margot Robbie’s Barbie movie. Actress and film director Greta Gerwig has officially signed director Barbie, starring Margot Robbie as the world-famous Mattel doll.

Gerwig signed the project as a writer in 2019 with film director partner Noah Baumbach, and she is reported to be considering directing her following the success of her debut Lady Bird and her sequel, Little Woman.

The Warner Bros. comedy, which Robbie will produce via the Lucky Chaps banner, will begin production at London’s Leavesden studios in early 2022, Variety reports.

Robbie also recently confirmed that Gerwig will be overseeing the project during a Vogue UK cover interview in August 2021. “People usually hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what the movie is going to be like,’ and when they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing this movie, they say, “Oh, maybe not me. t… ‘” She said.

Barbie is slated for release in 2023. Gerwig is currently working on a Baumbach adaptation of Don DeLillo’s modern classic White Noise, starring Adam Driver.
