PM’s focal person for polio eradication resigns – Pakistan

The prime minister’s focal point for polio eradication Babar bin Atta resigned Friday.

In a post shared on Twitter, Atta said he asked Prime Minister Imran Khan to relieve him of his duties due to "some personal reasons" related to his family.

"During this time [as focal person on polio] I had the opportunity to work with the best minds in the world.

In October 2018, Atta had confirmed that his name had been finalized for the position in principle.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Prime Minister today, Atta said he believed he had completed the mission he was given and that he was submitting his resignation since he had not been able to give his father's welfare time.

"In this sense, I would like to humbly present my resignation because, as I am the only child of my parents, I have not been able to concentrate on the health of my sick father and I do not want to live the rest of my life regretting not taking care of my parents when they needed me more. "

Atta said that in order to maintain a balance between his work and his obligation to his parents, he was sure that he would leave the first "in good hands that they would continue the mission wholeheartedly until the end."

He added that his parents were his priority at this time.

In a series of tweets, Atta said he had made "every possible effort to create that enabling environment where polio eradication is one of the top priorities."

"A call center will be opened soon 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to address all concerns of people who have questions related to the vaccine"

Atta said that the first & # 39; Perception Management Initiative & # 39; Pakistan will be launched at the end of the month, whose effects will be a "game change".

"I'm leaving at a time when the low transmission season is about to begin.

"Pakistan is in a position that will finally eradicate polio once and for all. The opportunity should be capitalized and should not be lost from here. I am always indebted to the love and respect that you have all offered."
