Junior Dos Santos during Alexander Volkov vs. UFC Moscow Day Event

UFC's return to Moscow in Russia will no longer cover Junior Dos Santos in the main event.

According to the report RT sportsMMA Fighting confirmed Tuesday that the UFC heavyweight champion was excluded from the November 9 confrontation with Alexander Volkov. Brazilians are known to have been hospitalized with bacterial infections in their legs, and two procedures were required to get rid of them.

Dos Santos (21-6) hoped to win after a quick TKO defeat to Francis Ngannou at the UFC Minneapolis Main Event. He entered the match in June, winning three victories, including TKO with Thai Tuy Vaasa and Derek Lewis.

Volkov (30-7) did not fight after a dramatic KO defeat to Derek Lewis in UFC 229. He headed for victory when Lewis had an amazing three round finish in just 11 seconds. Russia planned UFC St. Petersburg's headlines against Alistair Overeem in early April, but withdrew for reasons not disclosed.

It's not yet known whether Volkov will remain on the card, but if not, the co-hosted event of featherweight contenders Zabit Magomedsharipov and Calvin Kattar will be the new headliner.

UFC Moscow is broadcast only on ESPN +.
