Turkey to support Pakistan in hotel, tourism industry

The ISLAMABAD-Turkish government will soon launch technology development projects in Pakistan to produce skilled personnel in the hotel and tourism industries.

In this regard, plans to establish a state-of-the-art hospitality and construction center in Pakistan are underway, said Nasir Khan, NavTTC (National Vocational Skills Training Committee).

In an exclusive conversation with the APP, he said that the Center for Hospitality and Construction Excellence will be established at Islamabad National Technical University under the Technical Development Agency of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TCCA). He said that all project costs, including recruitment and construction work, will be managed by the Turkish government.

Dr. Nasir said that under the project, Turkey will support the National Vocational Training Committee (NAVTTC) for the technical development of Pakistani youth.

"This is the first project in Pakistan to be launched by Turkey, with the world's first special expertise in hospitality and construction," he added.

He said the establishment of a modern hospitality center would provide 1.5 million employment opportunities annually for skilled workers in the Pakistan hotel and tourism industry. According to the NAVTTC data, there are currently more than 10,000 hotels in the country, including 3, 4 and 5 stars with more than 50,000 rooms.

The hotel and tourism industry in Pakistan offers the opportunity to employ about 1.5 million people, which accounts for 2.5% of the total output each year, he said.

He hoped the Turkish center would increase the rate of employment opportunities in the country.

Dr. Nasir said, "The center will not only ensure the production of trained personnel for development projects in countries such as the Sino-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), but will also provide employment opportunities for foreign young people."

He said that the main goal of NAVTTC is to prepare skilled workers and at the same time provide technical training for employment at home and abroad.

The Turkish Center for Excellence added that it will help NAVTTC's ongoing efforts to cultivate maximum youth through technical education. He said NAVTTC is making every effort to improve technology and professional education.

He said more reform is needed in formal education, adding that the world is ahead of Pakistan in technical and professional education.

With the cooperation and support of the Turkish technology development institutions, he said, we will improve the quality of technology development educational institutions.

He said that this step of establishing a modern center of excellence in hospitality is a positive step towards the vision of the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
