‘So-called friends of Karachi’ choked sewers to disrupt cleanliness drive, says CM Shah – Pakistan

Sindh Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah on Sunday accused "alleged friends of Karachi" of trying to disrupt his current "Clean My Karachi" campaign by drowning sewer lines, a statement issued by the prime minister's office said.

Shah made the comments while touring the city to inspect the progress of the ongoing cleaning campaign, initiated by the provincial government a day earlier and which will last a month.

The prime minister added that the clogged lines could have caused the spill of wastewater in the areas of Malir and Quaidabad, as well as in Shahrah-e-Faisal.

"These people are enemies of Karachi and Karachiites, therefore, they are playing with them," Shah said in a press release.

He was accompanied on his tour by members of his cabinet, including Sindh information minister, Saeed Ghani, local government minister, Syed Nasir Shah, advisor to Sindh's chief information minister, Murtaza Wahab, and commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shahlwani, among others.

The statement also said that around 7,152 tons of garbage had been lifted on the first day of the trip.

More than 600 dump trucks, shovel machines and tractors and 4,000 workers will be employed for the campaign that started yesterday.
