SCBA President Amanullah Kanrani ‘removed’ from post over alleged misconduct – Pakistan

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) removed its own president, Amanullah Kanrani, by resolution Monday.

A general meeting of the association's body "showed its vote of no confidence" against Kanrani, said a notification issued by the SCBA.

"The chamber unanimously resolves and shows its vote of & # 39; not trust & # 39; in Amanullah Kanrani for not attending today's special general meeting for him, although the agenda of the same was issued by him," said one resolution.

The general body meeting authorized the Senior Vice President of SCBA (Sindh) to act as president according to "the rules of the SCBA" for the remainder of the executive committee's mandate. The body also condemned Kanrani's "derogatory" behavior, which he said was embarrassing for the bar.

"The house condemned the misconduct and the malicious / derogatory behavior of the president of the SCBA, which is shameful for all the legal fraternity and for the country's top bar."

The body also passed multiple resolutions on the head of the SCBA.

"The house unanimously resolves that the amount of the monthly rent of the SCBA shelter from May 1, 2019 to date must be recovered from Kanrani along with the amount paid by the SCBA because of the payment of utility bills and staff salaries, "the resolution reads.

The participants of the meeting also approved to send the matter to the National Office of Responsibility (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), if Kanrani does not present the amount.

"The house unanimously resolves that if the president of the SCBA, Kanrani, does not deposit the amount of the monthly rent and the salaries of the staff, a request must be submitted for embezzlement and misappropriation of funds to the NAB and the FIA, together with the reference to be presented in Pakistan Lawyers Council against Kanrani. "

The body has already submitted a request to investigate the financial matter for investigation at the Islamabad Secretariat police station.

Amanullah Kanrani was elected to the highly coveted position in October 2018, after stiff competition between the Independent Group (Asma Jahangir panel) led by Ali Ahmed Kurd and the Professional Group (Hamid Khan panel) led by Kanrani. Kanrani had obtained 1,092 votes in total, while Kurd had received 950 votes.

Kanrani has recently been in the news for his fighting stance against the Supreme Judicial Council hearing of a judicial reference against the Supreme Court judge Qazi Faez Isa.
