PM Imran heads to US to speak about Kashmir, contemporary issues at UNGA, other forums – World

Prime Minister Imran Khan will arrive in the United States today to highlight the situation in Kashmir occupied at the session of the UN General Assembly and other forums. He had left for the United States after concluding a visit to Saudi Arabia.

According to the Foreign Office (FO), Prime Minister Imran will lead the delegation of Pakistan during the high-profile week of the UN General Assembly Session in New York from September 21 to 27.

"The prime minister will deliver his speech to UNGA on Friday, September 27 and will share Pakistan's perspective and position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and its current human rights and related dimensions," a FO statement said, adding that the first Minister also articulate Pakistan's perspective on some key contemporary issues.

"In general, the centrality of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute would be emphasized through countless commitments," he added.

The FO said the prime minister will hold several bilateral meetings with his counterparts in several regions and will participate in high-level UN summits on climate change, sustainable development, universal health coverage and financing for development.

"The prime minister will also attend and speak at parallel events organized jointly by Pakistan and Turkey to counter hate speech and about environmental protection and poverty alleviation organized jointly by Malaysia and Pakistan," the statement said.

"A trilateral summit meeting of Pakistan, Malaysia and Turkey will be held outside the General Assembly," he added.

According to the FO, the prime minister will also interact with a representative sample of international media and hold meetings with editorial committees.

"The Prime Minister's intervention commitments in the main groups of experts and meetings with the heads of the main international human rights organizations are also foreseen," said the FO.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will also attend the session of the United Nations General Assembly, interact with his counterparts in several countries and address important ministerial meetings, especially the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir.

During the prime minister's visit to Saudi Arabia this week, he informed King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman about the latest events in Jammu and Kashmir, occupied by India.
