Misbah names 16-member ODI squad for Sri lanka series – Sport

The head coach of Pakistan's cricket team, Misbahul Haq, announced on Saturday a 16-member squad for the three one-day international matches (ODI) against Sri Lanka, which will begin on September 27 in Karachi.

The team includes Sarfaraz Ahmed (captain), Babar Azam (vice-captain), Abid Ali, Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Hasnain, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan , Usman Shinwari and Wahab Riaz.

Two forced changes had to be made after fast bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali were ruled out due to illness and injury, respectively. Afridi has dengue fever, while Hasan was ruled out due to a back spasm.

"Hassan was originally part of the team, but yesterday he felt a spasm in his back. According to the physiotherapist, he cannot be part of the team at this time. Let's see how soon he can get in shape," Misbah explained as he announced the names during a conference. in Lahore.

Abid Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Usman Shinwari and Mohammad Hasnain have earned the memory.

Iftikhar, 29, played only two ODI against England in 2015 before he had been set aside mainly due to the presence of two more complete players, Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik, on the team.

Malik retired from international matches a day after the World Cup in July, while Hafeez received permission to skip the series against Sri Lanka from the Pakistan Cricket Board to play in the Caribbean Premier League.

Nawaz, who also spins his left arm, has impressed the selectors with his form in the national one-day tournament of the Pakistan Cup and has been recalled after a year.

Initial hitter Fakhar Zaman has retained his place in the team despite the poor left-handed show with the bat during the World Cup.

"Without a doubt, his performance (Fakhar) has been reduced, but still his average is around 47 in ODI," Misbah said.

“He is an impact player. He is such a player that if he plays 10 overs, you have the chance to win the match. Instead of wasting it, we should see how we can use it in the future. "

Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan, who scored two centuries in the United Arab Emirates against Australia, also returned after being ignored for the World Cup.

Misbah said that Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and Rizwan have different roles and Rizwan could be in the eleven as a gardener.

"If someone has scored two hundred in No. 4, you have to give it a try," Misbah said.

"You have added the advantage of having two wicketkeepers, he is very good … we are trying to encourage those players and we will try to give them matches whenever we have the opportunity."

Sri Lanka has already announced two squadrons for the three international one-day and the three T20 matches. Ten high-ranking players chose to leave the tour for security reasons.

Pakistan's squad for the three T20I against Sri Lanka in Lahore will be announced during the one-day series. Until then, the other players in the probable camp will continue training in the NCA.

"After thorough discussions with the members of the selection committee and meticulous planning, I think we have assembled the best possible team," said the selection chief.

"These are the only games over 50 that we play this season and we want to make optimal use." In the course of my cricket career, I realized that there are no easy games and no easy opponents in cricket. "

The ODI series will conclude on October 2 and will be followed by three Twenty20s in Lahore between October 5 and 9.
