Federal Law Minister Dr. Farogh Naseem said on Saturday that the application of article 149 of the Constitution will only empower and strengthen local government systems in several provinces and is not an issue that should be considered controversial in any way.
His comments came during a press conference in Islamabad during which he was flanked by the government's main spokesman, Firdous Ashiq Awan, and other officials.
"First, I would advise everyone to read Article 149 (4) of the Constitution. There is nothing controversial about it, except the provision to empower a local government, and there is a mechanism to match it with Article 140A," said the minister. of right. .
"And it won't be just for Karachi; if the federation's recommendation is successful, it will light the way for other cities in Sindh, Punjab, KPK and Baluchistan," said Naseem.
He explained that "if the local government of Kandiaro, Diplo or Dadu is empowered, it is not the PTIs or the MQM that benefit. It is advantageous for their own local government that is there and I am fighting for their case."
The law minister also clarified that the application of article 149 is not intended to create a division between Karachi and Sindh.
"We ourselves have declared not to allow Karachi to separate from the rest of the province," Naseem said while answering a question.
