Country to observe Sept 6 as Defence, Kashmir Solidarity Day – Pakistan

A notification from the Ministry of Interior announced Wednesday that offices across the country will be closed before 3 p.m. September 6 to observe Defense Day.

The day will also be observed as Kashmir Solidarity Day, according to the notification. The day's activities will also include visits to the families of the martyrs, as well as monuments built in his memory, he added.

Friday would mark the 54th anniversary of the 1965 war between Pakistan and India. The day is observed with traditional zeal throughout the country and special ceremonies are held to honor the martyrs of war.

This year, the nation will also express solidarity with the residents of Kashmir occupied by India, who have been under confinement during the last month. The Indian government had placed Kashmir leaders under house arrest and imposed a strict curfew and blackout of communications in the region before repealing article 370 of the constitution, revoking the special status of occupied Kashmir.
