At least six militants were killed by security forces on Wednesday in an intelligence-based operation in the Eastern Bytta area of Quetta.
The Baluchistan police inspector general, Mohsin Hassan Butt, confirmed the fact that the suspects belonged to the Islamic State militant group.
During the operation, a Baluchistan Police official was martyred and eight others from the Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF) were injured, one of whom is said to be critical, the police chief said.
According to an official from the Department of Fight against Terrorism (CTD), intelligence agencies along with ATF and CTD personnel carried out a raid today early in the morning during which an exchange of gunfire took place between militants and Security officials
As a result of the operation that lasted almost six hours, CTD recovered a large number of weapons and explosives from the militants.
According to IGP Butt, a woman was among the killed militants. He said their bodies were taken to the Quetta Civil Hospital for a post mortem examination.
Another security official, who refused to be identified, said the dead militants were involved in a series of targeted killings and bomb blasts in Balochistan.
After the operation, a large contingent of police and other security personnel was deployed in the complex where the raid took place.
Meanwhile, Balochistan Prime Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani expressed his satisfaction with the successful operation carried out by the security forces and congratulated the team that participated in it.
