2 Karachi policemen held for taking bribes, extortion money from citizens – Pakistan

Bahadurabad police arrested two police officers on Thursday accused of receiving bribes and extorting citizens during check-in in Karachi.

According to a police spokesman, the two police officers were arrested after Karachi's police chief, Ghulam Nabi Memon, noticed a video circulating on social media. The images showed the two police officers allegedly receiving a bribe from a citizen on Shaheed-i-Millat Road.

On the instructions of the city police chief, the two police officers were charged with bribery and extortion after their arrest.

Memon urged citizens to file complaints in WhatsApp number 0343-5142770 if they see police officers riding motorcycles, traveling on police mobiles or on foot, misusing powers or harassing citizens to extract bribes.

The city police chief warned the police force that if they are found to be negligent in the performance of their duty or their powers are misused, not only will departmental actions be initiated but also legal proceedings against them.
