Texas cities gained most jobs in nation in July


The city of Texas led job growth this summer, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Houston ranked second in the nation with an annual job growth rate of 3{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} in July of the 12 largest metropolitan areas in the country, and a 3.5{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} annual growth rate over Dallas. That was twice the national growth rate where jobs grew 1.5{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} during July.

Houston's manufacturing sector added 11,000 jobs in July than a year ago, an increase of 4.8{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5}, much higher than the nationwide manufacturing sector, which grew only 1.2{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} in July.

Houston's professional business services and leisure and hospitality sectors also benefited more than the nation. Jobs in the professional and business services sector in Houston increased 4.9{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} year-on-year, while the country increased 2.2{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5}. Jobs in the leisure and hospitality sector in Houston increased 3{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} from last July, while jobs in the leisure and hospitality increased by 2{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5}.


According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Houston ranked third in the country by the number of net jobs created in July.
