Four bodies were recovered from the Kandia river in Kohistan after a van with 31 passengers fell, authorities said. Sunrise on Friday.
According to the initial information available, the vehicle sank into the river after a wooden bridge collapsed over the river. The river is passing through the Barigo area of the Kandia district in the upper Kohistan.
The Chief of Civil Defense of Kohistan, Ihsanul Haq, said the fateful truck was heading to Komela from Kandia. He said the bridge could not support the load and collapsed when the vehicle crossed it.
He said five men jumped out of the van before it fell into the river.
The officer added that four bodies have been taken out of the river and work is being done to find the rest. Civil defense teams, police and locals are participating in the operation, he added.
He said four women and five children were aboard the truck when he fell. The four dead were residents of the same village and were close relatives, he added.
