If filtered benchmarks are created for AMD Ryzen 9 3950X, Ryzen remains a problem for Intel. According to the filtered benchmarks, Ryzen 9 3950X outperforms Intel Core i9-9980XE in single and multi-threaded processes.
This is surprising since Ryzen 9 3950X is a 16-core CPU, while the Core i9-9980XE is an 18-core CPU. The benchmarks were filtered in Geekbench through the Twitter user TUM_APISAK.
As for the specifications, the system was using 32 GB of DDR4 RAM with a base frequency of 3.30 GHz and a boost frequency of 4.30 GHz. This is lower than the final frequencies for AMD Ryzen 9 3950X, which is 3.50 GHz base and 4.70 GHz boost. This could be an early show, but it's more like Ryzen 9 3950X.
Now let's talk about benchmarks. The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X scored 5868 points in single-threaded processes and 61072 points in multi-threaded processes.
In comparison, the Intel Core i9-9980XE scored 5300 points in single-threaded processes and 42,000 points in multi-threaded processes. As you can see, Ryzen 9 3950X is way ahead of the Core i9-9980XE in terms of multi-threaded performance.
However, Intel Core i9-9900K leads Ryzen 9 3950X in single-threaded performance due to its 5 GHz single core frequency increase.
But, since the sample has a lower base and a boost frequency compared to the final specifications, the results may differ once the CPU is released. Also, with a 5 GHz overclock, AMD Ryzen 9 3950X will probably outperform Intel Core i9-9900K in single-thread performance.
Not to mention that Ryzen 9 3950X presents the Precision Boost Overdrive algorithm that gives the CPU an additional 200 MHz increase in CPU frequency. All this combined, 3950X will definitely beat Core i9-9900K.
Speaking of which the Ryzen CPU surpasses Intel in terms of performance, AMD's 12 Core / 16 Thread Ryzen 9 3900X also beats Intel Core i9-9900K and i9-9920X.
CPU | Cores / threads | Base clock | Boost Clock | Cache | Launching | |
Ryzen 9 3900X | 12/24 | 3.8GHz | 4.6 GHz | 70MB | $ 499 | July 7, 2019 |
Ryzen 7 3800X | 8/16 | 3.9GHz | 4.5 GHz | 36MB | $ 399 | July 7 |
Ryzen 7 3700X | 8/16 | 3.6GHz | 4.4 GHz | 36MB | $ 329 | July 7 |
Ryzen 5 3600X | 6/12 | 3.8GHz | 4.4 GHz | 35MB | $ 249 | July 7 |
Ryzen 5 3600 | 6/12 | 3.6GHz | 4.2 GHz | 35MB | $ 199 | July 7 |
Despite Intel's latest Core i9-9900K with a 5.0 GHz boost for all its cores, the Ryzen CPU has managed to overcome it. The reason could be the greater number of cores / threads for Ryzen 9 3900X.
