The Houston region recorded the third highest job creation rate in the nation's 12 largest metropolitan areas in April, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday.
The Houston, Woodland and Sugarland regions saw strong job growth of 2.8{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} year-on-year in April. Currently there are 3.3 million employees in the area. Nationwide, job growth was 1.8{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5}.

Professional and business services added the most local jobs in April, up 22,300 year-on-year. Manufacturing added 14,900 jobs last year.
The Phoenix Metro area, including Mesa and Scottsdale, and the Dallas Fort Worth area, including Arlington, grew jobs faster than Houston. Both saw a 3.2{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} increase in jobs over the previous year.
