AMD recently confirmed the launch of its Navi GPU in the third quarter of 2019, but did not reveal any specific models or specifications. While we wait for AMD to officially reveal the GPU, reports have emerged suggesting that Radeon RX 3080 is the next Navi GPU.
The AMD Radeon RX 3080 7 nm is reportedly based on the Nvai 10 GPU and features 8 GB of VRD GDDR6. However, that is not the focus of the rumor.
Reportedly, the AMD Radeon RX 3080 offers performance equivalent to Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 that is based on the Turing architecture. Not only that, the RX 3080 will cost $ 330.
Given that RTX 2070 is a high-end GPU capable of generating real-time ray tracing in video games and costs $ 599, the price of $ 330 for the supposed AMD Radeon RX 3080 seems to be a good deal.
Since this is just a report, take it with a grain of salt. But, if AMD manages to carry it out and also enables Ray Tracing in real time for its Navi GPUs, this could be a game changer.
The reason I would do that is that Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs are the only ones on the market capable of processing Ray Tracing in video games. With AMD removing that advantage, it will be interesting to see how Nvidia will respond to the competition.
In addition, Nvidia will not only face competition in the PC market, since PlayStation 5 will also support Ray Tracing in real time.
Recently, Sony confirmed the specifications of PS5 and, according to Sony, PlayStation 5 will feature a customized third-generation Ryzen CPU with 8 cores and is based on the 7 nm Zen 2 microarchitecture.
As for the GPU, the console features AMD Navi graphics that are capable of representing Ray Tracing in real time in video games. Not only that, PS5 will also see a great improvement in audio quality.
Navi GPU is not the only thing that AMD confirmed for the launch of the third quarter of 2019. AMD has also confirmed its Ryzen 3000 CPUs for the third quarter of 2019. This means that we will see the launch of the 7 nm AMD CPUs and GPUs between July and september.
Following the announcement, listings of Ryzen 9 3800X, Ryzen 7 3700X and Ryzen 5 3600X appeared in several online retailers. According to the listings, the Ryzen 9 3800X comes with 16 cores / 32 threads, 3.90 GHz base clock and 4.70 GHz booster clock.
However, the specifications for the Ryzen 7 3700X are the most interesting. The list suggests that the CPU features 12 cores with a base clock of 4.20 GHz and an amazing pulse clock of 5.0 GHz.
All these are only leaks and rumors and it will be a good change of pace if we receive something official from AMD regarding its Ryzen 3000 CPUs and its Navi GPU.
